🔹Hong Kong’s cargo business is tethered to Chinese mainland, as GBA is projected to be a major growth lever

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in South China is considered a key growth region for the future of air cargo business, according to Cathay Pacific Airways. The airline aims to connect air cargo from the Chinese mainland to the rest of the world through Hong Kong. Around 50% of Cathay Pacific's revenue currently comes from the GBA, which is growing in importance. The company plans to invest in aircraft, trucks, terminals, and talent reserve to deepen its roots in the region. Cathay Cargo has been increasing its capacity, adding new aircraft and expanding routes to connect the Chinese mainland with the US, Europe, and Australia. The cargo business has seen fast growth driven by e-commerce from the GBA and eastern China. Hong Kong continues to enhance international competitiveness and consolidate its position as a shipping and financial hub. Cathay Pacific remains optimistic about the Chinese mainland economy and the role of Cathay Cargo in the region's air cargo growth. The company sees potential for future growth as China continues to develop and strengthen.

🔹Shenzhen-Zhongshan link in S China's Guangdong to open to traffic

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a transportation hub project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), opens to traffic at 3:00 pm on Sunday,with traffic flow exceeding 7,000 vehicles within the first hour of its operation, Xinhua News Agency reported.After the bridge commences operation, the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan will be shortened from two hours to around just 30 minutes, greatly enhancing the connectivity and efficiency of the national highway network and transportation system in the GBA. In addition to boosting tourism, experts said the road link will provide more options for local employment, lower living costs, and enhance the efficiency of the local supply chain. It will also help Hong Kong to maintain its position as an international trade and financial hub, the expert said.

🔹Guangzhou-Europe Railway Cross-Border E-Commerce Center Commences Operations

Guangzhou, July 8 (Reporter Luo Aihua, Li Gang) Recently, a train numbered X8168, carrying electronic products, daily necessities, and light industrial products from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, departed from the Guangzhou Railway Logistics Center in Zengcheng Logistics Park with a whistle, and will head to Hamburg, Germany via the Khorgos port, marking the official launch of the Guangzhou-Europe Railway Cross-Border E-Commerce Center.Going forward, the cross-border e-commerce trains departing from this center are scheduled to run regularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The frequency of these cross-border e-commerce train services will be increased in a timely manner based on the cargo supply situation, in order to provide higher-quality logistics services.

🔹My Freighter begins flights to Shanghai and Ezhou

Uzbekistan-based airline My Freighter has started operating cargo flights to Shanghai and Ezhou after receiving authorization to fly routes to and from Mainland China in April.The airline plans to operate three weekly flights to Shanghai and up to 10 weekly flights on the Tashkent-Ezhou-Tashkent route.My Freighter has also signed an interline agreement with Air Europa to grow its presence in the US market, and is expanding its fleet of ATSG-leased Boeing 767-300 passenger-to-freighter aircraft.The airline had previously planned to add 747-200F aircraft, but has since changed its fleet plans due to reduced demand in 2023.In addition to cargo operations under "My Freighter Cargo Airlines", the company also offers passenger flights under the "Centrum Air" brand.

🔹Tianjin Air Cargo Security’s summer gets off to a good start

China’s Tianjin Air Cargo Security Inspection Station started the summer by setting new records and rethinking operations for the season.The Tianjin inspection station noted the inspection of around 300 tonnes of cargo and mail, a 480 percent increase from last year, at the beginning of this month.Based on recent data, the volume of air cargo flying into and within China increased substantially from last year’s figures. Likewise, special measures need to be taken to address the transport of food products in warmer weather. Tianjin Air Cargo Security made several adjustments to address both matters.To improve the efficiency of security inspection during the summer transportation period and reduce the detention time of goods, Tianjin Air Cargo Security formulated a special work plan to ensure the timely inspection and orderly loading and transport of both mail and cargo. The inspection station also established an information linkage mechanism with the cargo terminal.

🔹Vietnam's garment and textile industry adapts to find opportunities amid new purchasing trends

According to Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), the garment and textile market has shown more positive growth since the beginning of 2024 compared to 2023. The textile industry aims to achieve USD44 billion in exports in 2024. As of May 2024, the export turnover of textiles reached over USD15.8 billion, an increase of 4.3% compared to the same period in 2023.The gradual warming of the Vietnamese textile market is attributed to key markets such as the US and Europe controlling inflation, leading to a recovery in consumer purchasing power.

The Asiana Airlines Pilots' Union has sent a letter to the European Union (EU) competition authorities opposing the merger with Korean Air.On the 9th, the Asiana Airlines Pilots' Union stated that they sent an official letter to the EU Commission the previous day, expressing opposition to Korean Air's acquisition and advocating for the sale to a third party.The union also sent the same letter to the 'Star Alliance Pilots Association' (ASAP), a pilot organization within the airline alliance that Asiana Airlines is a member of.

🔹Amendment to Circular for Bangladesh Cargo Transshipment Through Bengaluru

Circular No. 09/2024-Customs, dated 09th July 2024, issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, Ministry of Finance, announces an amendment to Circular No. 29/2020-Customs. This amendment permits the transhipment of Bangladesh export cargo to third countries through the Air Cargo Complex at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. Previously allowed through Kolkata and Delhi Air Cargo Complexes, this amendment aims to enhance logistics efficiency and facilitate better cargo evacuation. The amendment, effective from 15th July 2024, outlines procedures to be followed until further directives from the Board.
