1. Air Freight General

 

1) INOMAD - Qatar Airways Cargo, system linkage partnership signed

-  INOMAD Co., Ltd. (CEO Lim Jun-seok), an air logistics platform company, is the first in Northeast Asia to establish system linkage with Qatar Airways Cargo.

The above partnership was signed on (2/22)

  -  INOMAD connects the airline with the API (Application Program Interface) system to provide customers with real-time fares

The platform provides services such as checking schedules and direct airline reservations

  -  Services that were only available through the airline system can be checked in real time on INOMAD.

  -  INOMAD is scheduled to launch in Vietnam in 2024 following the establishment in Hong Kong last year, and will open at Incheon International Airport in September of this year.

Planning to open a logistics center as an air cargo platform terminal with a size of 20,000 square meters

 

2) Korea’s e-commerce export trends

-  In 2022, Korea's e-commerce exports reached $910 million dollars, the highest for five consecutive years.

-  E-commerce exports showed steep growth during the COVID-19 pandemic

Despite a decrease (14.7%), record high performance was achieved.

-  Due to the expansion of online consumption due to COVID-19, the growth rate of exports between 2020 and 21 increased by more than 100% for two consecutive years.

-  However, export growth slowed significantly (6.1%) due to the negative base effect from record growth last year.

3) Growing 'foldable phone' amid recession

-  Expected growth rate of foldable phone this year is 52%... Despite the sluggish market, shipments are increasing

-  Last year, global smartphone shipments reached 1.2267 billion units, a 13% negative growth compared to the previous year (Market share: Samsung 21%, Apple 18%, Xiaomi 13%)

-  Form factor innovation, price cut effect, Chinese offensive, ‘fierce’ competition over Apple’s patents

Samsung sold 9.8 million foldable phones last year, accounting for 78% of the market, and this year aims for a 63% market share with shipments of 12.3 million units

-  Apple is expected to launch a foldable phone in 2025 after releasing a foldable iPad first next year

 

 

4) Chinese e-commerce logistics companies (Yun Express, JD Logistics) full-scale air cargo business

·         Zongteng Group provides Shenzhen-Paris flights through its subsidiary Yun Express

·         JD Logistics, a logistics company of the Jingdong Group is expanding its domestic route network in China and is planning to enter international routes by the end of 2025.

·         Consigned to China Central Airlines, the first flight will begin on Jen 18th, and additional B777 cargo planes will be added in June-August operating 6-8 flights a week.

·         Last year, the group’s cargo carrier, JD Logistics Airlines, opened its first Shenzhen-Hangzhou route.

·         Plans to transport more than 15,000 tons of cross border e-commerce cargo per year with Boeing 777 freighters, and expand its transport capacity to 28,000 tons per year by 20204.

 

·         The Beijing-Wuhu-Nantong route and the Shenzhen-Wuxi route were newly established with Boeing 737 freighters. Sine 2017, JD Ulryu has been providing air cargo transportation in cooperation with airlines through charter flights.

·         Zongteng Group works with local partners in Europe to optimize China-Europe cross border e-commerce logistics and turnaround times.

·         Transportation network of 100 airports and 1,000 routes has been in charge of regular air transportation between China and Southeast Asia, the United States and Europe in international transportation.

·         Established in 2009, Zongteng Group operates over 1.2 million square meters of warehouses in Japan, Europe, the US and Australia. Sales in 2021 recorded 3.85 billion euros.

·         Compared to Alibaba Group, JD.com has grown with its own logistics network by JD logistics as its strength.

·         Last year a B777 cargo plane was acquired and cargo flights between Shenzhen to Riyadh was operated with Central Airlines. Marine transportation is being proceeded with COSCO shipping.

·         JD Logistics seeks to increase transportation capacity and reliability by incorporating air cargo transportation using the group’s volume.

  

 

5) Airline/GSA Event update

 

(1) MIAT Mongolian Airlines (OM), US traffic ticket application 

-          MIAT Mongolian Airlines, the national airline of Mongolia, applied for a traffic ticket to the US Department of Transportation (DOM) for Mongolia-US passenger flights. 

-          OM plans to start deliveries of the first two B787-900s in Q2 2023.

       -          PVG, SGN, SIN, SFO flight plan with two B787-9.

 

(2) OZ increased from March to 12 international flights, 40 flights per week 

Plans to expand international routes by increasing flights to 12 routes by 40 times a week from March

·         CMA SGM AIR CARGO started operating CDGPVG 4W on the 17th, A332F

·         Starting with HKG operation in October of last year, 5W is currently in operation. B777F

·         In addition, ORD and MIA are in operation, and ICN and BKK are scheduled to operate soon.
