Key initiatives include developing state-of-the-art logistics facilities, enhancing air cargo services, and facilitating cross-boundary e-commerce logistics. HAFFA emphasized the importance of these developments for strengthening Hong Kong's position as an international logistics hub and improving competitiveness, while the Airport Authority Hong Kong welcomed measures to expand flight networks and promote the Airport City strategy.

On October 14, the 80014th freight train departed from Guangzhou International Port, carrying export goods such as auto parts and clothing. This marks the first "China-Laos-Thailand" railway freight service from Guangzhou, adding a new route to the city's international freight network. The train will travel through the Mohan border crossing in Yunnan, continue south along the China-Laos Railway to Vientiane, Laos, and then proceed to Bangkok, Thailand, with an estimated travel time of four days.As the Belt and Road Initiative progresses, economic cooperation between China and ASEAN countries is strengthening. Products from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including electronics, automotive machinery, and building materials, are increasingly popular in ASEAN markets. The new "China-Laos-Thailand" train service will enhance efficient logistics channels for trade between the Greater Bay Area and ASEAN, leveraging the stability and efficiency of existing logistics routes.

From January to September 2024, Shanghai Port achieved a record container throughput of 39.102 million TEUs, reflecting an 8% year-on-year increase. The city's international sea and air hub construction is progressing steadily, with continuous growth in container and passenger volumes, further solidifying its status as an international shipping center.The first phase of Luojing Container Terminal has opened, enhancing efficiency with a capacity of 2.6 million TEUs. In aviation, Shanghai's two major airports reported 602,000 flight operations and passenger throughput of 93.43 million, returning to 2019 levels. Additionally, international cruise operations have resumed, with significant passenger numbers in 2024. Looking ahead, Shanghai aims to establish a green and smart international shipping center by 2025, focusing on digitalization and sustainability.

The railway service boasts a stable transit time of around 14 hours, significantly faster than traditional sea transport, facilitating smooth trade between China and ASEAN countries. As of October 8, nearly 11 million containers have been transported from Guangxi, marking a 1,350% increase from the previous year, with a diverse range of goods including chemicals, building materials, and agricultural products being delivered to countries like Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, while also bringing Vietnamese tropical fruits to Chinese consumers.

🔹Korean Air resumes Seoul Incheon-Kumamoto service

Korean Air will begin daily flights on the Seoul Incheon-Kumamoto route starting November 24, resuming the service after a 27-year hiatus due to the Asian financial crisis. Kumamoto, located in Kyushu, is a year-round tourist destination known for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and attractions like Mount Aso and Kumamoto Castle.The airline is also expanding its services to smaller Japanese cities, increasing flight frequencies to Okayama and Kagoshima, and resuming the Seoul Incheon-Nagasaki route with four weekly flights. Exporters are using a combination of air freight, sea/air, and land/air routes through China and India to lower costs and avoid congestion at traditional Middle Eastern hubs.While air freight rates to Europe and the US have reached a two-year high, alternative routing through China and India has become increasingly viable. The growth in air cargo capacity from Asia-Pacific to North America and Europe is providing some relief, allowing exporters to navigate challenges effectively. Overall, the outlook for Bangladesh's exports remains optimistic as flexible logistics strategies help maintain supply chain continuity amid high rates and capacity constraints.

🔹Myanmar promotes MSMEs for economic development

Myanmar is focusing on accelerating the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to boost economic development, as reported by the state-run daily, The Mirror. During a recent meeting, Vice Senior General Soe Win emphasized the importance of MSMEs in promoting local products, reducing imports, and increasing exports, noting their current contribution of only 30% to the country's GDP. The meeting also addressed the One Region One Product (OROP) initiative and plans for exhibitions and competitions to showcase MSME products.
