On August 28, the Tianjin Container Freight Index stood at 1,978.29 points, unchanged from the previous day. The Western Mediterranean and US West Coast route indices were unchanged.

🔹 Maersk Announces Emergency Contingency Surcharge Adjustment for European Routes
On August 24, Maersk announced an adjustment to the Emergency Contingency Surcharge for cargo moving from the Indian Subcontinent, including Bangladesh, to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. The adjustment applies from a price calculation date of September 1, 2026. The rate for a 40-foot dry container will decrease from USD 5,800 to USD 5,300, while the 40-foot reefer rate will fall from USD 5,400 to USD 4,900. The 20-foot dry-container rate will remain at USD 4,000.

Maritime security reports issued on August 24 stated that a tanker near Ash Shishah, Oman, was struck by an unidentified projectile, damaging its engine room and leaving the vessel unable to navigate. A second tanker west of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, was struck and suffered a fire on its main deck. Both initial reports stated that the crews were safe.

On August 24, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued an alert concerning sanctions risks related to passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
